Algeria will reach its self-sufficiency in terms of production and the halting of fuel imports by the end of 2019, said Sonatrach Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in Algiers.
Indeed, speaking at a press conference at Sonatrach’s General Management headquarters, dedicated to the presentation of the company’s refining strategy, Ould Kaddour indicated that “Sonatrach is working to meet the needs of the national market in terms of fuel and end the import, “adding that” this will be achieved with the start of production of the refinery of Sidi Yacine in Algiers and that of Hassi Messaoud “in the south of the country.
Regarding the refinery of Sidi Yacine in Algiers, which has fallen behind by Ould Kaddour, it will be received at the end of the current year.
Regarding the Hassi Messaoud refinery, the same official said that the tender was launched last week and it will be received before the end of 2019. By stating that “this refinery will produce 50 million tonnes of refined hydrocarbons, which will achieve self-sufficiency in fuel and stop the import.”
Moreover, with regard to the improvement of Sonatrach’s image, Ould Kaddour indicated that he and company executives are working on this subject, particularly through investments abroad and at the local level. “We are intelligent men and we know very well how to plan for the image of Sonatrach inside and out, and we have several plans to achieve this goal,” he said..
