When Sonatrach avoids an electric blackout in Lebanon

Algeria – Lebanon has almost experienced a general electrical shedding due to a fuel crisis that has lasted for a few days.

Thanks to an agreement with Sonatrach, a first cargo of fuel will be delivered this Monday to Electricité du Liban (EDL), avoiding the blackout in the country of cedar. César Abi Khalil, Lebanon’s outgoing energy minister, has announced that EDL’s current rationing should not be extended over time.

A solution to the fuel supply of the electricity production units was found with the Algerian company Sonatrach.

At the same time, according to the same newspaper, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has informed President Michel Aoun since Paris of his talks with the Algerian authorities. Interviews that have apparently resulted in an agreement as two freighters from Sonatrach will transport the fuel to Lebanon, according to the Lebanese official agency ANI.

Contacts should continue between the two countries in the coming days to find a definitive solution. In the last few months, EDL, which holds the monopoly of electricity generation in cedar country, has faced a series of difficulties.
